To address critical gaps in healthcare, we are building a network of affordable hospitals.
Access to quality, affordable hospital care is essential for the health and well-being of communities. In many parts of the country — especially in rural areas — public facilities are often inadequate or overburdened, while private care remains out of reach for poor and vulnerable households. As a result, high out-of-pocket medical expenses during serious illness can push families into financial hardships.
In response, we are setting up 30 hospitals across the states where we work. These will be located at block headquarters, district headquarters, and state capitals. With capacities ranging from 100–200 beds to 500 beds and 1,000+ bed facilities, these hospitals will offer modern infrastructure and advanced medical services.
Our hospitals will:
- Provide near-free treatment for the most vulnerable, across secondary and tertiary care.
- Expand medical education through medical colleges, nursing and allied health colleges, and other training programmes to strengthen for the health workforce.
- Collaborate with public health institutions — district and taluk hospitals, and block-level PHCs — to improve overall health outcomes.
Where we are building hospitals
Network hospitals
We support several public health organisations, including hospitals, to strengthen services and expand access to the poor and the underserved. At the same time, we are building a countrywide network of public-spirited hospitals — institutions committed to providing affordable, quality care. Through collaboration, we seek to ensure that more people can access the treatment they need.
Azim Premji Hospital and Medical College, Ranchi, Jharkhand
Our first hospital is coming up in Ranchi, Jharkhand, as part of Azim Premji University’s Ranchi campus. The integrated campus will include the hospital, university, medical, nursing and allied health colleges, hostels, staff residences and a school. The hospital is planned as a 1,500-bed super-specialty facility, to be built in phases. The first phase of the hospital — comprising 230 beds — will begin operations in early 2027.
