Our work in rural India began in 2023, with one block in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh.
Over the years, our Field Institutes have enabled the expansion of this work to 14 blocks of six states — Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. Across these locations, our teams work to improve the delivery of comprehensive primary care through the public health system.
We believe that a robust public system is key to the health of a community, and it is equally important for people, especially those in some of the country’s most underserved areas, to trust and use that system.

By working closely with Anganwadi Workers, Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), and Community Health Officers (CHOs), we focus on building strong relationships that help communities have confidence in the public health system.
Together, we seek to make everyday health services better, timely, and more accessible.
Our work includes:
- Strengthening Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Days (VHSNDs);
- Improving services at Health Sub-Centres, Primary Health Centres, and Anganwadi Centres, and
- Ensuring that referral systems — including transport and care at higher-level facilities — work smoothly.
We also believe that communities should have a voice in their own health. That’s why we support and strengthen the functions of Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Committees (VHSNCs) and Jan Aarogya Samitis.
Through hands-on support, capacity building, and regular engagement with day-to-day challenges, we help them do their work more effectively.
Another important part of our work in rural India is running creches for highly vulnerable children in the age group of seven months to three years. Many of these are located in the same areas where we work on health. Through these creches, we focus on improving early nutrition and care during a critical stage of a child’s development.
We are also setting up hospitals in the states where we work — not only to provide essential services, but to boost the public health system. Our new university campus in Ranchi will include a medical college, as well as nursing and allied health programmes, to help build a skilled and committed health workforce.
