Azim Premji Health Equity Fellowship

Health

Our Fellowships offer young medical professionals hands-on experience in underserved rural areas, guided by mentors with deep community expertise.

A major challenge in public health is the shortage of professionals prepared to work with the most vulnerable communities in rural and remote areas.

The Azim Premji Health Equity Fellowship offers a rare and valuable opportunity: to understand the full complexity of practising medicine in remote, resource-scarce settings while serving those who need care the most.

The Fellowships are run in collaboration with partner organisations — typically not-for-profit organisations, hospitals or health centres serving rural, Adivasi and other vulnerable communities.

Fellows learn directly from mentors who have spent many years serving in challenging and offbeat contexts. These mentors work with limited resources, take on multiple roles according to local needs, and approach health through a holistic lens, considering the well-being of entire communities.

We seek individuals who see medicine as a career of service and are eager to understand the realities and complexities of rural India. The Fellowship provides a structured way of experiencing what life and work in these settings truly involve.

Fellows will also have opportunities for long-term placements in our hospitals or with partner hospitals.

We have a Fellowship programme for doctors who have completed their PG and for young MBBS doctors. To be informed about future Fellowship opportunities for doctors and other health professionals, sign up here.
